Integrative Herbal Medicine & Functional Nutrition for Her
Ancient Wisdom, Modern Approach
Maybe you’re having symptoms that are affecting your quality of life. Maybe you’re just not feeling like yourself. Perhaps you’ve received a diagnosis and want to try alternative therapies before pharmaceuticals. Nobody knows you better than you, but I am here to help connect the dots with a comprehensive approach to health and well-being.
My goal is to help uncover the root cause of your imbalances, and offer you natural approaches that have proven efficacy.
I’m Julie Townsend, a Certified Clinical Herbalist, Nutritionist & Women’s Integrative Medicine Institute Certified Educator. My work integrates traditional approaches of herbal medicine and food as medicine, with the latest evidence-based insights to address a variety of women’s health concerns.
The truth is, when you give the body what it needs (or take away what it doesn’t), our innate ability to heal is remarkable. There are thousands of variables that impact our overall state of health - what we eat, how much stress we’re under, and the strength of our digestive system, for example, all matter. Your body will offer feedback as symptoms, and if we miss what’s it’s trying to tell us, chronic issues may arise. That’s why looking at the whole person and not just an isolated set of symptoms is so important to understand what’s at the root cause of imbalances.
I have multiple diplomas in clinical herbalism, integrative nutrition and am also certified by the Integrative Medicine Institute trained by Dr. Aviva Romm - one of the nation’s preeminent leaders of integrative and botanical medicine. This, combined with decades of personal experience, make me uniquely qualified to practice ancient traditions with modern approaches to help you feel like you again.
“Re-examine all you have been told. Dismiss what insults your soul.”
— Walt Whitman
What separates a functional medicine approach from a conventional one is the emphasis on the client/practitioner relationship. Longer initial appointments mean your health history, current health concerns and future health goals will be covered in depth. These initial intakes typically take between 1.5-2 hours.
Our work together will uncover the things that may no longer be serving you, and we’ll incorporate new habits to take their place. Your experiences and preferences are taken into account and how you feel in your body is never dismissed. Together, we will determine the best path forward for YOU. Your pace, your comfort level, your lifestyle. We’ll make adjustments as life happens. It may not always be easy, but as long as you keep showing up, you’re never behind and you're never off-track. You are supported every step of the way.
After each session you’ll be given written recommendations that may include herbal medicines, supplements, dietary and/or lifestyle modifications. Following receipt of your protocol, a quick follow up call is included to answer any questions you have on these recommendations. I’ve specifically designed my packages to include frequent 10 minute check-ins to stay on course and ensure the plan is working for you.

More About Me…
Having spent two decades in a soul crushing industry in NYC, I traded in my corner office for a life in beautiful Boulder, CO and decided to focus on what mattered – how we care for ourselves, our environment and each other.
I believe in questioning our western approach to wellness and want to help shift the paradigm away from symptom suppression and quick fixes to an integrative approach to health. My mission is to educate and empower women who seek an increased reliance on natural approaches for wellness and prevention.
I will snuggle every dog I meet, cannot just “browse” at a plant shop and will always choose a sunny beach over a cold mountain. I love the indulgence of luxuries large and small, and will choose quality over quantity every time.
I know how busy life can get, and I know the stressors women face at home, in the workplace, and in our healthcare system. I have been there, and I can help you to incorporate lasting change, just as I did. I know that way we choose to live our lives and how we incorporate the gifts the earth provides is the most crucial aspect to ensure our physical, spiritual and emotional well-being. And I believe this may just be the most powerful medicine of all.
